Hesston Steam Museum

Located at 1201 E 1000 N, La Porte, IN 46350 in northern Indiana, the Hesston Steam Museum is a family friendly attraction. Guests can take a ride on a steam train, visit the gift shop, and view the numerous antique farm equipment exhibits. The museum is also open certain weekends throughout the year.

 

Visitors can also visit the museum’s flea market, which features a wide variety of items. These include railroad memorabilia, antique farm equipment, and arts and crafts. The museum also has a vintage blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a steam-powered electric power plant. Visitors can also take a ride on a miniature live steam locomotive. The museum also features a steam crane built for the US Navy in 1941. The museum is operated by the La Porte County Historical Steam Society. The museum is located on 155 acres.

 

Guests can enjoy the museum’s four different gauge railroads. Visitors can also take a ride on a steam locomotive, visit the blacksmith shop, and enjoy the museum’s antique farm equipment exhibits. The museum is open certain weekends throughout the year, including Labor Day Weekend Steam & Power Show. This event features special narrow gauge steam locomotives that visitors can ride.

 

In addition to its trains, the museum also features an electric power plant, a working sawmill, and a telegraph office. Visitors can also take a ride on a steam crane, which was built for the US Navy in 1941. Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s gift shop, which features toys for little engineers. In addition to the train rides, the museum also offers breakfast with the train crew. Visitors can also enjoy a tractor parade.

 

Visitors can also enjoy the Rail Museum, which features steam locomotives, electric-powered streetcars, and interurban cars. Visitors can also take a ride on the Rail Museum’s four-and-a-half-mile demonstration railroad. Visitors can also purchase items from the Depot Store, which offers a variety of books, toys, and railroad memorabilia. Guests can also attend special events and tours.

 

Visitors can also take a ride on the Hesston Zoo Railroad, which runs through a 2.5-mile dual-gauge trackage. This trackage features impressive grades and dips. Visitors can also see a threshing machine that processes grains for the fall harvest. A large, 67-ton 1929 Shay logging locomotive is also on display. This locomotive is the largest train at the museum. The museum also features several smaller trains. The Hesston Zoo Railroad route is quite interesting, especially since it travels through dips and rocks back and forth.

 

Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s flea market, which is open during the weekend of Labor Day Weekend. Visitors can also purchase items from the flea market, which features a variety of railroad memorabilia and arts and crafts. The flea market also offers items from the antique store, including steam powered equipment.

 

Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s labor day weekend steam and power show, which features special narrow gauge steam locomotives that visitors are able to ride. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CDT) on Labor Day Weekend.
